“Interning abroad should be mandatory for everyone“

Shaun graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Hotel, Tourism and Travel Management. He chose to go to Seville, Spain because he wanted a competitive advantage after graduation. The program he chose offered him the opportunity to increase his Spanish, transfer courses back to the University of Houston and to perform an internship in the tourism field. For Shaun's internship, he worked in a museum rotating responsibilities from reception, to translations and event coordination.

Where did you travel?

I traveled to Cordoba, Granada, Itálica, Italy, Morocco, Portugal and France.

What were your favorite activities?

loved to go the same café for breakfast every morning. I was always greeted by the "Camareros" with a warm smile, learning new jokes and increasing my vocabulary.

How did your experience abroad affect your marketability?

I left Spain being able to speak Spanish and feeling more confident in my ability to solve problems and handle the unknown. My experience abroad is a constant topic of conversation in interviews which gives me a competitive advantage.
