Take half the clothes and twice the money

While this may not be 100% true for everyone, students tend to overpack and underestimate how far their money can take them. I always suggest students to pack light. Why not bring the basics, enough for one week, and then purchase clothes when you arrive? Purchasing clothes locally serves a couple of purposes…. It helps you blend in (btw… Americans tend to stand out a lot!) by matching your apparel with the dress code of the locals and gives you the opportunity to take back a new wardrobe. Don’t you love the idea of responding to “I love that shirt! Where did you get it?” with, “This old thing? I bought it in Europe.”. With regard to budgeting for your trip abroad, it’s always better to have more than you need than not enough.
